DRIBBLING THEIR WAY TO PHILLY

PRIESTS AND SEMINARIANS CLASH ON THE BASKETBALL COURT TO RAISE FUNDS TO SEE THE POPE IN SEPTEMBER

By STAFF     8/25/2015

TUSTIN — Riding to victory on the second-half free throw and three-point shooting of Fathers Tim Peters and Brendan Manson, the priests of the Diocese of Orange pulled away to defeat the seminarians 69-62 in the first-ever Priests vs. Seminarians basketball game at the St. Jeanne de Lestonnac School gym August 7.

Several hundred fans filled the stands at $10 per seat (the funds were earmarked to pay for the seminarians to travel to Philadelphia in September to see Pope Francis at the World Meeting of Families), and Bishop Kevin Vann tossed the ball for the opening tip-off.

The seminarians clung to a one-point lead at the end of the first half, but the priests gained the advantage after halftime.

A total of 35 seminarians are scheduled to go to Philadelphia in September.
