THE BLESSING OF THE BIKES

Bikers gather for a very unique moment and a special blessing

Early Monday morning, May 11, cyclists from all over Orange County gathered for a very special event. They came to have their bikes blessed as part of National Bike Month at the Santa Ana Metrolink Station.

The Orange County Transportation Authority has several events happening for the month of May including a bicycle rally which took place earlier in the month and a “ride of silence” which is scheduled for May 20 to honor cyclists that have been injured or killed while on the road.

Father Efrain Flores, the pastor at St. Joseph Church in Santa Ana, welcomed the cyclists and administered the blessing of each rider’s bike. “I feel safer on four wheels, but this event helps educate people on the benefits of biking; it’s healthy, cheap and a good mode of transportation,” he said.
