By A summer camp experience combines faith with scouting fun     9/5/2019

Over 100 youth and scout leaders recently participated in the first Orange County Catholic Encampment. The theme for the late-summer encampment, held at the Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley, was “Worshiping in God’s Creation.”

It was a normal summer camp week during the day, where scouts worked on merit badges, rank advancement; participated in horseback riding, cycling, use of zip lines and ATVs. In the evening, however, the youth participated in Catholic activities, such as learning about how to pray the Rosary, the Stations of the Cross, International Catholic Awareness, listening to motivational speaker Fr. Thomas from St. Catherine’s in Temecula, among many other activities. The week concluded with a Mass with Bishop Freyer as the celebrant. Youth from Troop 818 and the Bishops Crew served as altar servers, cantors, lectors and musicians. The Scouts said it was a fun and spiritual week, well worth attending.
