CHRIST CATHEDRAL DRAMA SERIES RETURNS

By Staff     5/3/2018

The Freed Theater at Christ Cathedral is the site of the stage production of “The Confessions of St. Augustine.”

Caught for many years in a depraved and immoral existence, Augustine of Hippo (354 – 430 AD) struggled with promiscuity, fathered a child out of wedlock, and dabbled in a “new age” style cult. Yet he continued his relentless pursuit of truth, encouraged by the prayerful perseverance of his faithful mother, Saint Monica. After he finally converted, Augustine went on to become not only a bishop but one of the greatest Church Fathers of Western Christianity.

Set against a cosmic backdrop, “The Confessions of Saint Augustine” is a universal drama that transcends time and space. Actor, president and founder of St. Luke Productions, Leonardo Defilippis has edited and shaped this moving tale of spiritual conversion into a riveting dramatic experience.

“As I explored The Confessions, I discovered a completely modern man absorbed in a decadent existence of sexual indulgence and intellectual arrogance,” he explains. “Augustine reveals something very personal that resonates deeply in my soul and touches the hearts of all who hear his compelling words.”

The performance dates are: Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m.; Friday, May 18,7 p.m.; and Sunday, May 20, at 12 noon. Shows are at the Freed Theater, on the campus of Garden Grove’s Christ Cathedral. Suitable for ages 12 and up. Tickets are $20, available online at www.eventbrite.com or at the door.
