WHAT IS A BISHOP’S SYNOD? WHAT DO THEY DO WHEN THEY CONVENE?

The Bishop’s Synod, a 50-year-old entity, is an assembly of several hundred bishops called to Rome by the Pope that represent the universal Church. Each bishop is given the floor for three minutes and may provide input to the Pope. The synod takes place every two years and this is the first for Pope Francis.
