SMCHS STUDENT WILL ATTEND U.S. NAVAL ACADEMY

Hannah Walz, a senior at Santa Margarita Catholic High School, has committed to attend the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in the fall. 

An award-winning student-athlete and a member of the SMCHS Cyber Patriot team, Hannah has set her sights on a career in cyber security, and ultimately hopes to serve in either the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Cyber Warfare division. 

During her high school career Hannah was honored with awards for exceptional leadership skills as well as athleticism. She ran with the SMCHS Girls Cross Country Varsity team in the CIF State Championships in 2018.  Hannah was also recognized for her journalism and artistic skills, winning first place for her editorial cartoon entry in the Southern California Journalism Education Assoc. awards and serving as an illustrator for the school’s newspaper. She also won first place for her winning essay in the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Essay Contest. 

“I have been preparing to uphold the United States Naval Academy codes of duty, honor, and loyalty for my entire life through my academic, athletic, leadership, and service experiences,” Hannah said. “The deep-rooted honor code and tradition of the Navy, both in its rich history and its high reputation as a powerful fighting force, is something I want to be a part of.”
