Local Eagle Scout Eric Friestedt from Troop 818 in Rancho Santa Margarita was named “Eagle Scout of the Year” in California by the California Department of the American Legion. Eric was selected from over 500 American Legion Posts in California for his demonstrated leadership, community service and his STEM achievements.
After earning his Eagle rank as a freshman he remained in his Troop to help younger scouts stay the course and earn their Eagle rank. In addition to his 58 merit badges Eric earned seven Eagle Palms. Additionally, the Boy Scouts of America presented Eric with two special awards; the Boy Scout SuperNova STEM Awards; the Thomas Edison Award and the Dr. Richard Harris Award. Less than 1% of scouts have received these awards.
